park plaza’ two years after,initial plans were floated for the site. designed by ma yansong
of MAD architects, the project explores the relationship between architecture and its natural environment
,creating a strong dialogue between the man-made structure and its immediate context.
strategically positioned on the southern edge of chaoyang park
– one of the chinese city’s largest green spaces.
– the vast scheme comprises over 120,000 square meters of commercial, office and residential buildings.
the design reinterprets elements of classical chinese painting, transforming natural vistas into modern
city landscapes.

Rising as two tall mountains, a duo of asymmetrical towers establish a distinctive skyline rising
as tallmountains, a duo of asymmetrical towers establishes a distinctive skyline soaring above
the park.
Incorporated within the façade, ridges and valleys characterize the structure, giving the
impression of being affected by erosion or other forces of nature. these protruding strips not
only emphasize the buildings’ verticality, but also feature a sophisticated ventilation and
filtration system that draws air inside.

the spatial organization provides occupants with the feeling of moving through a mountain
forest a 17 meter.
- Tall courtyard lobby connects the paired towers, envisioned as a valley. flowing water moves
through the volume, while at the summit, public gardens offer a different perspective of the
lower plain created by the shorter buildings on the site. four smaller stone-shaped offices are
arranged below, with two further residential structures in the southwest area of the plot.

ridges and valleys characterize the structure, emphasizing the tower’s verticality from an envir-
onmental standpoint, the use of natural light, intelligent design and air purification systems
meant that the project has been awarded the ‘leadership in energy and environmental design
(LEED) gold certificate’ by the U.S.
green building council.through exploring the relationship between architecture and its envir-
onment, the scheme reconsiders how the urban landscap of the 21st century can cater for its
inhabitants, offering a distinct sense of place and belonging.
